The Fresh Forward Annual Meeting: Education, fellowship and the future
Recently, the Fresh Forward member growers met for our annual meeting at the Ohio State University Research and Development Orchard.
It was a day of education, fellowship and talk about the future, with our board members (Allen Grobe of Grobe Fruit Farm; Joe Burnham IV of Burnham Orchards; Dano Simmons of Peach Valley Orchard; Lester Lynd of Lynd Fruit Farm; Jeff MacQueen of MacQueen Orchard; Ben Gammie of Quarry Hill Orchards; Jim Moore of Moore Orchard and Gregg Bachmann of Sunny Hill Farms) joining the Fresh Forward team, including Alex Buck, president.
“Our annual meeting is a time where we get to get together in person and talk about strategic planning, food safety, new growing techniques and sharing helpful tips,” Buck said. “We want our growers to get the most up-to-date industry information available and also have the opportunity to learn from one another.”
This year, the member growers met with Entomology and Plant Pathology professors from The Ohio State University to visit their research and development orchard in Wooster OH.
One big announcement from the annual meeting is the new Ludacrisp apple. This new varietal is sure to be popular and it’ll start to hit stores, farm stands and more in late October.
The Ludacrisp is juicy and sweet – sort of like that flavor explosion of popping a fresh stick of Juicy Fruit gum in your mouth. Biting into a Ludacrisp is sweet, crunchy and with a hint of a tropical flavor.
It’s sure to be a hit this season.
The meeting was held July 26, 2022.
